In Finland, basic training for pilots is usually provided by the Finnish Aviation Academy in Pori. The training takes approximately two years and is split into several phases. Upon graduation, pilots will hold a commercial pilot licence, an instrument rating and a multi-engine type rating.
Finnair also has its own MPL Program (Multi-crew pilot licence), which is a training program designed for those interested in a career as an airline pilot, aiming to qualify students to operate as part of a multi-pilot crew for an airline. Finnair’s MPL training prepares students directly for the role of a co-pilot for a certain aircraft type. The duration of the training is approx. 22 months.
